Bet on Bundesliga

The Bundesliga literally translates to Federal League, thus any premier league of any sport in Germany can be called Bundesliga.

However, Fußball (or Football) is so popular in Germany that Bundesliga has become synonymous to Germany's primary football competition.

A total of 18 teams compete in Bundelisga. The league operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Bundesliga 2 (the second tier league).

Losing Bundesliga teams are relegated to Bundesliga 2, while winning Bundesliga 2 teams are promoted to Bundesliga.

A total of 50 clubs have competed in the Bundesliga since its establishment in 1963.

Meanwhile, a total of 43 clubs have won the Bundesliga championship.

Since the 1970s, FC Bayern Munich has dominated the championship, winning the title 22 times. The clubs with the next most titles are BFC Dynamo Berlin (10; all accomplished in the GDR Oberliga) and 1. FC Nuremberg (9).

Bundesliga has seen other champions with Hamburger SV, Borussia Dortmund, Werder Bremen, Borussia Mönchengladbach and VfB Stuttgart being the most prominent ones.

The Bundesliga is one of the top national leagues, currently ranked 3rd in Europe according to UEFA's league coefficient ranking, based on recent European performances.

Bundesliga is also the number one football league in terms of average attendance and its average of 41,802 fans per game during the 2009-10 season was in fact only beaten, among all sports, by the Indian Premier League (cricket) and the National Football League (NFL) (American football).

Excluding franchise based leagues though, the Bundesliga has the highest average attendance of all leagues in all sports.

Available bets on Bundesliga

There are generally three ways to bet on the Bundesliga, these are:

  • Bundesliga Matchup - a bet on the winner of individual Bundesliga matches (e.g. bet on the winner of the match between Stuttgart and Augsburg or Hamburg and Hoffenheim).

  • Bundesliga Outright Winner - a bet on which club will win the championship.

  • Bundesliga Specials - a bet made on the outcome of certain aspects of Bundesliga matches, but are not a typical part of the in-game betting. Specials in Bundesliga matches may include betting on which club or player will score the first goal, how many total goals a particular player will score, how many yellow cards will be given in the match, etc.

In a Bundesliga Matchup bet, you just have to pick the winner of a particular Bundesliga match.

Betting sites provide a list of available matchups of the competing clubs and their corresponding odds plus the odds for the "Draw", like the following:

1 X 2
Kaiserslautern v Bayer Leverkusen 15/8 23/10 11/8
Schalke 04 v Nürnberg 4/6 11/4 4/1
Freiburg v Hertha Berlin 8/5 23/10 8/5

Some betting sites show "1" as Home, "X" as Draw and "2" as Away.

Let's say you picked Kaiserslautern to win over Bayer Leverkusen and placed a €20.00 bet. At odds of 4/5, if Kaiserslautern wins the match, your €20.00 bet will win €16.00 for a total return of €36.00.

In the second matchup, let's say you picked the Nürnberg to defeat Schalke 04 and placed a €20.00 bet. At odds of 4/1, if Nürnberg wins the match, your €20.00 bet will win €80.00 for a total return of €100.00.

In the Freiburg v Hertha Berlin matchup, let's say you picked the "X" (Draw) and placed a €20.00. At odds of 23/10, if the match is declared a draw (or the match ended in a tie), your €20.00 bet will win €46.00 for a total return of €46.00.

Meanwhile, in a bet on the outright Bundesliga winner, sports betting sites list the competing clubs with their respective odds, just like the following:

Bundesliga Outright Winner
Bayern Munich 1/6
Borussia Dortmund 6/1
Schalke 20/1
Werder Bremen 33/1
Bayer Leverkusen 40/1
Borussia Mönchengladbach 50/1
Stuttgart 66/1
Hannover 100/1
Hoffenheim 100/1
Wolfsburg 250/1
Hamburg 250/1
Hertha Berlin 300/1
Cologne 500/1
Mainz 500/1
Nürnberg 500/1
Kaiserslautern 750/1
Freiburg 1000/1
Augsburg 1000/1

You just have to bet on which club you think has the best chance of winning the Bundesliga championship.

Let's say you picked the favorite Bayern Munich and placed a €20.00 bet. At odds of 1/6, if Bayern Munich wins the championship, your €20.00 bet will win €3.33 for a total return of €23.33 (your original bet plus your winnings).

Looking at the bottom of the list, if you bet €20.00 on the longshot Augsburg, and Augsburg wins the championsip, at odds of 1000/1, you'll get €20,020.00 (€20.00 original bet plus €20,020.00 winnings).

Meanwhile, Bundesliga Specials (also known as Propositions or Prop Bets) are offers which include betting on which player will score the first goal, how many goals a particular player will score, how many yellow cards will be given in the match, how many goals will be scored in the match, etc.

Bundesliga offers a ton of betting options for all types of bettors. You should bet selectively to have a rewardng betting experience. Glück!
