2012 ALCS:Detroit Tigers vs. NY YankeesOctober 16, 2012 by Marc Jerbs

On Tuesday, the American League Championship Series moves to Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan for Game 3 between the Detroit Tigers and NY Yankees. The first pitch is set at 8PM ET.

The NY Yankees are in a 2-0 hole in the ALCS. Captain Derek Jeter will be out for the postseason after he broke his ankle in Game 1's 6-4 loss against the Tigers. New York hitters have struggled mightily in the ALDS against the Orioles and still has not hit consistently against the Tigers for two games.

Robinson Cano, Curtis Granderson, Alex Rodriguez and Nick Swisher have not performed very well throughout the postseason. Only Derek Jeter, Ichiro Suzuki and Mark Teixiera have hit consistently for the Yankees. Without Jeter, Cano, Granderson, Rodriguez and Swisher must get behind their hitting slump and contribute for Game 3.

The Detroit Tigers will have home field advantage for Games 3 and 4. They do have a chance to sweep the series if the New York fails to find their offensive groove. For Game 3, Justin Verlander will pitch for the Tigers while Phil Hughes will start for the Yankees.

The sportsbook handicappers have installed the Detroit Tigers as a 1.5-point favorite to beat the New York Yankees on Tuesday night. If the Tigers became to confident about themselves, New York may have still a chance to win the game.
