2011 MLB AL East Match Up:NY Yankees vs. Toronto Blue JaysJuly 13, 2011 by Marc Jerbs

On Thursday, the NY Yankees will start their 2nd half MLB season against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Blue Jays will host the 4-day match up at the Rogers Centre.

The NY Yankees are just a game behind the Boston Red Sox for first place in the AL East. However, they would start their 2nd half season on the road against tough AL East opponents.

All-Star 3B Alex Rodriguez will be out for about a month after undergoing a knee surgery. On paper, the Yanks may lack the offensive power of Rodriguez but expect Eduardo Nunez to fill up third base and continue his steady contribution just like when Derek Jeter was in the disabled list for two weeks.

The Toronto Blue Jays are in 4th place and 11 games behind the Boston Red Sox in the AL East. Before the All-Star break, they have a 3-game winning streak and All-Star RF Jose Bautista is carrying the Blue Jays every game with his MVP-like season statistics.

The Blue Jays will send youngster Jo-Jo Reyes on the mound while the Yankees will counter with veteran Bartolo Colon. Last May, Reyes last only 3 innings against the Yankees after surrendering 5 hits, 5 runs and 2 walks. Bartolo Colon was also clobbered by the Jays with 7 hits, 6 runs and 4 walks after 6 innings.

The sportsbook handicappers have installed the NY Yankees as the favorite to beat the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday. However, if the Bartolo Colon can locate his pitches well the Blue Jays have a chance to beat the Yankees.
