2010 MLB Division Series:NY Yankees vs. Minnesota TwinsOctober 05, 2010 by Marc Jerbs

On Wednesday night, the Minnesota Twins will play the NY Yankees in Game 1 of the American League Division Series. The Yankees have defeated the Twins in three divisional series since 2003. This year, they will face them again at their newly built Target Field in Minneapolis.

The Twins emerged as the AL Central Division champion with a 94-68 record in the regular season. They owned a 53-28 record in their spanking new Target Field. Playing at their home turf helped the Twins rule the AL Central Division. Pitcher Francisco Liriano will be on the mound in Game 1. The team needs Liriano to find his groove and pitch well against the dreaded Yankees' lineup. Liriano missed the last two postseason due to his Tommy John surgery. This year, he returned to form to lead the Twins to another postseason stint.

The Yankees are the defending World Series champions. They have a bulls-eye mark at their back since most of the teams in American and National Leagues would want to meet them this postseason. The Twins would be the first one to try the mettle of the defending champs. CC Sabathia will pitch for the Yankees in Game 1.

Sabathia is a solid candidate for the AL Cy Young after he posted a 21-7 record, 3.18 ERA and 197 Ks in the regular season. He's the Yankees' ace pitcher, could dominate and set the tone of the game.

The sportsbook handicappers have installed CC Sabathia and his NY Yankees as the favorite to win Game 1 of the American League Division Series. But, if the Yankees played below their playoffs standard, things could be much easier for the Twins to earn a win.
